Foundation Laid for the 50 MW “Shams” Solar Power Plant in Jabrayil
The groundbreaking ceremony for the 50 MW “Shams” Solar Power Plant was held in Shahvalli village, Jabrayil district, with the participation of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, alongside senior representatives from the country's energy sector, including the Ministry of Energy, the Azerbaijan Renewable Energy Agency, and Clean Energy Jabrayil LLC.
During the ceremony, the strategic importance of the project and its contribution to Azerbaijan's renewable energy transition and long-term sustainability goals were highlighted. The project is expected to play a key role in supporting the development of Eastern Zangazur as a regional green energy hub.
Once completed, the solar power plant will have an installed capacity of 50 MW, generate approximately 103 million kWh of electricity annually, save around 22 million cubic meters of natural gas, and reduce CO₂ emissions by approximately 48,000 tonnes each year.
The project represents another significant milestone in Azerbaijan's green energy transition, contributing to cleaner electricity generation, energy diversification, and sustainable economic development.
